James Teague was a private, Company I, 2nd Reg. East Tennessee Cavalry. He enlisted September 22, 1862 at Sevierville, Tennessee. While on furlough for 30 days, he was captured by the rebels and held as a prisoner of war until the end of the war. Discharged on July 6, 1865, James is buried in an unmarked grave in the Lazy Cove area off the Grassy Fork Road.
