    Notes:

From "The Tenmile Country and It's Pioneer Families".
Leonard Garrison.......applied for a pension for service in the Revolution, from Greene County, Penns ylvania, on September 17, 1833.
(National Arch. Pa.-W.7503). From this appli cation, and that of his wife, we learn the service of his brother, George Gar rison, and many of the statistics of his own family. He stated that he was born in Maryland on May 5, 1760. In 1777 he went out as a drafted militaman and served at Garads Fort under Captain Samuel Swindler and served for two months. After he got back home he was called again to serve under Captain Stephen Gapen for a period of a month. In the Spring of 1778, he as drafted to go to Hannastown, but after getting as far as Uniontown, his command under, Lieutenant Henry Myers, was ordered to join Colonel Alexander McClean on the Virginia Line. In the Fall of the same year he served under his brother, George Garrison, as a minute man, scout and spy, and continued this service for the next five years. The pension application of his wife says that Leonard Garrison died March 10, 1836, which is borne out in Greene County O.C. Docket. pp. 88. His widow stated that she (Rebecca) had been born in April 1774, was 65 years old on June 10. 1839, and was married to Leonard on April 27, 1785, by John Minor, Justice of the Peace. (She was eleven years of age at the time.) In a sustaining affidavit, John Gapen stated that Rebecca had been raised at his home and he had attended the marraige. In an amended application of June 9, 1840, she gave a list of her children according to age, but had lost the Bible record of their births. This list corresponds with the Orphan Court record with one exception. She was still living in 1849.

JOHN married REBECCA GAPEN LONG on 27 Apr 1785 in Whiteley Creek, Whiteley Township,Greene County, Pennsylvania, United States. REBECCA (daughter of Private DAVID A. LONG, Sr. and SARAH R. FLOWERS) was born est Bet. 2 Apr 1774 - 27 Apr 1774 in Washington Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania Colony, British Colonial America; died on 3 Jul 1850 in Greene County, Pennsylvania, United States; was buried in Jacob Garrison Farm Cemetery, Dunkard, Greene County, Pennsylvania, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 7.  REBECCA GAPEN LONGREBECCA GAPEN LONG was born est Bet. 2 Apr 1774 - 27 Apr 1774 in Washington Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania Colony, British Colonial America (daughter of Private DAVID A. LONG, Sr. and SARAH R. FLOWERS); died on 3 Jul 1850 in Greene County, Pennsylvania, United States; was buried in Jacob Garrison Farm Cemetery, Dunkard, Greene County, Pennsylvania, United States.

    Notes:

    Thomas Ebling from Ancestry
"Her death date of July 03, 1850 is from the widow's pension record for 1850, source: U. S. Treasury, "Records of the Office of the Third Auditor of the Treasury, 1818-1872: Ledgers of Payments, 1818-1872, to U.S. Pensioners Under Acts of 1818 through 1858," NARA Records of the Accounting Officers of the Dept. of the Treasury, Record Group 217, National Archives, Washington, D.C., microfilm publication T718;database, digital images, U.S. Pensioners, 1818-1872, Ancestry.com (www.ancestry.com : accessed Dec. 11, 2013) The census record states that it was taken on Sept. 30, 1850; however, the official enumeration date for the 1850 census was June 1st. Rebecca was living with the John Long family in Gratis Twp., Preble Co., OH, in the U. S. Federal census for 1850, taken Sept. 30, 1850. No relationship is given in the census record; however John Long died in Aug. of 1850, leaving a will, which names John L. Garrison, son of Rebecca and Leonard Garrison (living next to them in 1850) as "nephew." Others named in the will were children and grandchildren of David Long and Sarah Flowers, so we have reason to believe that John L. Garrison, who died without issue, was their son."

Leonard Garrison, was the younger brother to Capt. George Garrison, who is also buried in this cemetery. They were the sons of Frederick Garrison Jr. and Margaret Haynes. The youngest brother, Jacob Garrison, inherited the farm when their father died.

    Comment on above:
Leonard Garrison and his older brother Capt. George Garrison both married into the Long family, George married Elizabeth Long & Leonard married Rebecca Long. The wife's were 1st cousins to each other. Elizabeth's father was John Long III and Rebecca's father was David Long. Both fathers were the sons of John Long Jr. and Ann Herrington.
    _____
One of the oldest sons of Leonard Garrison and Rebecca Long was David Garrison (my 3rd great-grandfather), he was named after his mothers father, David Long. There is very little information on David Garrison. We can find him in the 1830 census living at Monongahela Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania. We can also find him in the 1840 census living at Washington Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania. David Garrison may have had at least 3 sons and at least one daughter. We only know the name of one son, Daniel (my 2nd great-grandfather). This Daniel Garrison is buried at West Alexander Cemetery, West Alexander, Donegal Twp, Washington County, Pennsylvania. His grave Memorial can be found at link below.

    Birth:
Based on what dates and ages we do have she was born between April 2nd and April 27th.

    Notes:

It appears that John loved his wife very much and wished not to endanger her life by trying to start a family to soon after her marriage, as she was still just a child at the time and he was all of 14 years her senior. They did not have their first child until his child bride was about 18 years of age. Not all men of this time period would have waited so long although it does appear that he eagerly made up for lost time producing at least 13 children with his wife.
