4964 | I7998 | Furbee | Jonathan | Abt 1754 | 1800 | 0 | King.GEDCOM. Electronic. Date of Import: December13, 2001. [Benjiman Furbee Descendants.FTW] On 21 OCT 1788 Jonathan bought from Jacob Baker of Philadelphia, PA, and wife Hannah for 450 pounds 9,000 acres by survey of 4 JAN 1785 in Monongalia Co., VA, on Big Sand Run. An Augusta Co., VA, judgment (Furbees vs. Baker, O.S. 116, N.S. 40) of ca. 1803 mentions a deed dated 21 OCT 1788 that conveyed 9,000 acres on Big Sand Run in Monongalia Co., VA, from Jacob Baker and Hannah Baker, his wife, of Philadelphia, to Jonathan Furbee of Kent County, Deleware; recorded in Dover, DE, 25 APR 1790. Lived in Monongalia Co., VA in 1810-1830. Lived in Greene Co., PA in 1846. Lived in Marion Co., VA in 1850. John's first marriage is assumed because he had older children in 1830. In 1810 he had a boy under 10 and three girls under 10. By process of elimination, he seems to be the John Furbee who married the widow Rebecca Berdine. On 22 OCT 1838 he and his wife Rebecca, of Whiteley Twp., Greene Co., PA, sold to Henry Fox 36 acres near the head of Fox Run, a branch of Shannons River, adjoining George Hains, John Fox, Samuel Lemly, and the buyer Henry Fox. Joseph Fox Sr. had given the land to John and Rebecca to live on rent-free for their natural lives, which suggests she was his daughter. |

[Benjiman Furbee Descendants.FTW] In 1833 Mary Bell was 14yrs, 2 mos, and 27 days old when she rode to Green County, Pa. with and to married Samuel Jones Long. The couple rode on horseback to Greene Co. to get married. The day before they had been working the fields together and when Samuel came by with his horse and plow, she would turn her back to him as she was shy and timid. Sources: Furbee History by Wallace Foster McKimmie In 1838 Samuel received two land grants from the state of VA. One was for twenty and another was for one hundred acres. Both were located on the waters of Steel's Run which empties into Little Fishing Creek just above Wileyville, WV. The head waters of Steel's Run is just a mile or so from where the Furbee family settled. The Long and Furbee families were neighbors before the marriage of Samuel and Mary. Samuel Jones Long and his wife, Mary Bell, moved to the North Fork of Fishing Creek about 1840 and bought one hundred acres just out of Pine Grove, WV. Mary was only 14 at the time. Samuel and Mary had twelve children and became prosperous and influential in the area. In 1850, Samuel secured 580 acres of land, mostly on Maud's Run in the Grant District of Wetzel Co., from the state of VA. It later became an oil field and at the turn of the century, just after Samuel's death, all the children prospered from this. Sources: Descendents of Thomas Moore, Kevin Ahl Tombstone is inscribed with the name Mary Furbee Long, with birth date, death date unreadable, and born in Greene Co., PA. |

4986 | I13029 | Furbee | Mathias | Bef 1775 | 0 | King.GEDCOM. Electronic. Date of Import: December13, 2001. [Benjiman Furbee Descendants.FTW] 1805 was the last year Mathias appeared on a tax list in Monongalia Co., VA.[73] In 1809 Mathias sold to John Arnett 154 acres on Big Pawpaw Creek, adjoining John Furbay, for $700; signed Mathias (M) Furbey; no wits.[80] On 8 FEB 1809 Mathias Furbee, of Williamson Co., TN, made a deed of trust to John Sample & Co. Mathias owed Sample $737.78, payable by 1 MAY 1809. To secure the debt he conveyed 154 acres on the east side of Little Pawpaw Creek, adjoining James Robertson, the land to be sold if payment was not made; signed Mathias (X) Furbee; wits. David (Danl?) Montgomery, Thos. V. Benton, Wm. Huline. In 1812 a suit was brought by James Clelland against John Arnett in Monongalia Chancery Court concerning the land that Mathias had received from his father and sold to Arnett. In 1775 Alexander Smith had acquired a right to 400 acres between Little Pawpaw Creek and Big Pawpaw Creek by building a cabin and living in it. Smith sold the land to Isaac Lemasters, who sold it to his son Joseph. Joseph sold it to James Clelland, who had it surveyed and was issued a patent in 1796. About 1799 Clelland learned that Charles Harryman had obtained title to part of the land and sold it on 19 JUL 1791 to Caleb Furbee, who had taken possession. Furbee asked Clelland not to bring suit and agreed to buy the land from him for $200. There was no written agreement, and Furbee did not make the payment when due. On 11 OCT 1802 Furbee gave the land to his son Mathias, who sold it to Arnett. Clellan said Caleb and Mathias then left VA without paying him for the land. |

On 11 MAY 1769, however, James Boyer sold the two former Martinus Sipple tracts, 224-1/4 acres, to Joseph Caldwell for 100 pounds to pay Michael's debts. |
