15422 I65980  Valentinois  Charlotte of  30 Sep 1898  16 Nov 1977  [royalfam.ged]

Princess Charlotte of Monaco

Charlotte Grimaldi (September 30, 1898 - November 15, 1977) was a Princess of Monaco.

Born Charlotte Louise Juliette Louvet in Constantine, Algeria, she was the illegitimate daugh ter of Marie Juliette Louvet (1867 - 1930), and Prince Louis II of Monaco (1870 - 1949).

Charlotte's mother was married to, in 1885, Achille Delmaet, 1860-1914, a photographer. Late r divorced, they had two children: Georges, 1884-1955, and Marguerite, 1886-1894. At some poi nt, Louvet moved to Algeria, where she worked as a cabaret singer or a laundress (sources dif fer) and met the heir to the Monegasque throne. Though it is sometimes alleged that a marriag e between the two occurred, Charlotte, born in 1898, was declared an illegitimate child. Thou gh he took full responsibility for his daughter's upbringing, eventually Prince Louis left Ju liette to return to his duties in Monaco.

A political crisis loomed for the Prince because, without any other heir, the throne of Monac o would pass to the duke of Urach, a German prince, related through Prince Albert's aunt, Flo restine.

To ensure this did not happen, on November 15, 1911 a law was passed recognizing Charlotte a s Louis's daughter, and making her part of the sovereign family. This law was later held to b e invalid under the 1882 statutes. Thus another law was passed in 1918 modifying the statute s to allow the adoption of an heir, with succession rights. Charlotte was adopted by Louis i n 1919, and became Charlotte Louise Juliette Grimaldi, Hereditary Princess of Monaco, and Duc hess of Valentinois.

Rainier-Charlotte-Antoinette
A year after being recognized as princess, Charlotte's marriage was arranged to Count Pierr e de Polignac (1895 - 1964) of Guidel, Morbihan, Brittany, France who, by ordinance of Loui s II, took the Grimaldi name and received the title of Prince of Monaco. They would have tw o children:

I don't have info on the "nursery", but according to Andre Maurois's "A History of France", ( 1968 U.S. edition, page 132) Henry II complained that he was badly treated by the Spanish. H enry and his brother were held hostage as a result of a treaty his father, Francis I, negotia ted while imprisoned in Spain. In exchange for his freedom Francis agreed to allow the Empor er the Duchy of Burgundy. Henry and his brother were held as hostages to guarantee the agree ment. But after Francis I's release, the Burgundians refused to become part of the Empire . So Henry's grandmother, Louise of Savoy, and the Emporer's sister, Archduchess Margaret ne gotiated in 1529 "The Ladies Peace" (The Peace of Cambrai) which set the ransom for the freed om of the two princes at two million gold ecus, which the French paid.
There was obviously bad blood between the Valois and Habsburgs. One clause in the Cambrai tr eaty required Francis I to marry the Emporer's sister, Eleanor, which the King did in 1530 . Under the circumstance this proved to be an unhappy marriage.

Maurois writes that as king, Henry II of France, due to the bad treatment he received durin g his childhood captivity, hated the Spanish and especially Charles V.

15450 I64512  Vasa  Erik Gustafsson  13 Jul 1533  26 Feb 1577  [royalfam.ged]

Eric XIV of Sweden
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Erik XIV of Sweden (December 13, 1533 - February 26, 1577), son of Gustav I of Sweden and Cat herine of Saxony-Lauenburg, was king of Sweden from 1560 until he was deposed in 1568. He wa s also ruler of Estonia, after it gave itself under Sweden in 1561. He died in prison, appare ntly of poisoning. A document signed by his brother John III of Sweden and a nobleman, Beng t Bengtsson Gylta, gave Eric's watchmen in his last prison authorization to poison him if any one tried to release him. His body was later analyzed, and showed indications of poisoning.

Eric had several relationships before his marriage. With Agda Persdotter he had three daughte rs:

Virginia Eriksdotter (1559-1633) (living descendants)
Constantia Eriksdotter (1560-1649) (living descendants)
Lucretia Eriksdotter (1564-still alive 1574) died young.

With Karin Jacobsdotter:
An unmarried child, dead apr. 1565.

He finally married Karin M©Ænsdotter (1550 - 1612), on July 4, 1568, their children were:
Sigrid (1566-1633) (born before the marriage)
Gustaf (1568-1607) (born before the marriage)
Henrik (1570-1574)
Arnold (1572-1573)

http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_XIV_of_Sweden

Eric married Karin M©Ænsdotter in 1568, and during the same year, Johan and the Sture-family s tarted a revolution. Eric was overthrown and taken prisoner. Eric died in prison on the 26t h of August 1577 at ©rbyhus castle. His brother Johan had given orders to poison Eric's soup.
