Robert Waldrop was born while his family lived in Piedmont, SC. He went to school in Rosman, NC where the family lived while he was growing up. Bob liked to tell tales about when he was young and some of the trouble he got into. He and cousin Ray Waldrop were usually in the middle of it. Once, after a round of drinking, several of them came home to go to bed. Afraid they would wake up his parents, they decided to sleep in the barn instead of going into the house. They were also smoking and some corn shucks caught on fire. One of the boys woke up and saw the fire and awakened the others by yelling "Wake up, boys, and pee, the barn's on fire." (they evidently got the fire out as the barn did not burn down.)
