  It appears that John loved his wife very much and wished not to endanger her life by trying to start a family to soon after her marriage, as she was still just a child at the time and he was all of 14 years her senior. They did not have their first child until his child bride was about 18 years of age. Not all men of this time period would have waited so long although it does appear that he eagerly made up for lost time producing at least 13 children with his wife. + 14. Jemima Garrison, b. It is believed that this is a relative that was taken in by the couple but no solid evidence supports who the biological parents are.
