451 Alice Rosa Proffitt, neice of Waighstil Proffitt wrote the following about her uncle: " Uncle Waights attended Mar Hill College in North Carolina. Lived on a farm with his mother in Hart County, Georgia. He fought in the Civil War. My sister, Grace, had a lovely picture of him in Confederate uniform. He was handsome, he wanted to be a doctor. He is buried in Sardis Church outside of Hartwell, next to his mother." Alice was about ten years old when her uncle Waights died, she knew and remembered him.

"Frederick Garrison was one of the first settlets on Dunkard Creek, coming he re about 1770 from Maryland. He is on the tax list for Springhill Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, in 1772, when he and son Leonard Garrison, are listed as heads of households. There are traditions in the Garrison Family that say they came from Germany to New Jersey, but it is definite that they lived in Maryland at the time Leonard Garrison was born, "When Frederick died in 1813, he left a wife, Margaret, three sons and three daughters, whom he na med in his will (Green County Will Book 1 pp 113, probated June 17, 1813). There are reports of the use of their house as a fort, but this would mean only a temporary refuge at times of danger."

461 Alvin Jobes was commonly called Al or Uncle Alvin. Perhaps it is a generational "thing" or a matter of respecting ones elders but I have never heard anyone in my generation or any other that is close to my age refear to him as Uncle Al.

In 1943 Al graduated from Triadelphia Senior High School, Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia. Upon his graduation he found himself in three campians of World War II (Ardennes, Central Europe and Rhineland) as a Cpl in the 9th Armd Div 73rd AFA Bn. He was discharged from the Army in 1945 and immediatally went to Bethany College, Ohio County, West Virginia. On May 07, 1948 in Oakland, Maryland he married Carol Sarah Landon Bier. By the time 1950 had come around he graduated WVU School of Mines Engr. and went on to be the Section Forman at Valley Coal Company, Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia. Uncle Alvin seemed to take his education very seriously, always striving to improve his own self and the well being of the family. Other than this short biography to support this fact there is also the fact that he was registered as a 32nd Degree Mason.

Although Al had had many experiences already in his on March 25, 1953 he experienced one that no one is ever preapred for, being a father for the first time. This is when Deborah Ann Jobes was born. The family would see even more changes within the next year as in 1954 he began work with the Ohio Departement of Highways, Newmark, Ohio. In 1958 Al and Carol recieved an early Christmas present on December the 9th when thier son Edward Alan Jobes was born. Then a few days before Grandma Edna Biers 67th birthday, on May 01, 1961 Uncle Alvin and Aunt Carol had thier last child, Robert Landon Jobes, with the Landon coming Carols father, James Landon Bier. About two years later Alvin founded the consulting engr. firm of Jobes Henderson & Assoc. in Newmark, Ohio. I can not imagine how hectic this time must have been for him and Aunt Carol, with having three little ones around, although to Carol it may not have seemed so hectic (after all she had been raised in a house not only full of love but also very, very full of family.) In 1983 the couple finally retire to Cocoa Beach, Florida. It was during this retiremnet that they were able to greet ther first grandchild into this world. This retirement only lasted a few years for in 1987 he went to work for Pan Am World Services of Florida. He retired again soon after in 1991. On January 30, 1998 Uncle Alvin retired for the last time as he passed away in Cocoa, Florida.

463 America Sophia had six children.

"Sophia, the youngest of the household, the most mischievous and daring of them all, once drove a neighbor boy into a paroxysm of rage by singing non-partisan negro melodies. He (Isaac Hays) thought they were inspiring songs of the Confederacy. If she dared to sing 'Dixie,' which she knew well, she would have been arrested and brought before the authorities. During these years of the war, oil was discovered in the adjoining county of Ritchie, and a location was made at LaBelle on the Jackman farm, one mile above the Furbee farm on the edge of McElroy Creek. The drilling began and continued several months. Some of the employees boarded at the Furbee home. Among others was Peter Smith, who was a jolly fellow and an ardent and provoking defender of the Union. He and Sophia indulged in many good-natured quarrels over the nation's crisis. So, one day she put up on a pole over the front gate a red bandanna handkerchief, pretending it was a flag of the Confederacy. Pete arrived and, laughingly, marched under the flag of the enemy. However, others did not take it so lightly and the news spread that the Furbee girls were flying a Confederate flag in front of their house. In this case, at least, the local authorities had the good sense to ignore the report. The red bandanna continued to wave for a considerable period."

468 Andrew, who also went by Jackson was listed in the 1840 through 1880 Federal Census(s) of Sevier County, Tennessee.

He is also rumored to have had three wives. The name of the first wife as never been seen listed. There are on average one to three children attributed to this marriage. I have never seen any primary sources for this relationship or for the female herself. As more information surfaces I hope to be able to prove or disprove the existance of this first wife, but until then I will let my information stand as it is with him being listed with two wives.

477 As my Grandma Sapp (Helen Maxine Shuman Sapp) was one day telling my husband and I about her family she used one phrase that will forever stick out in mind. I had just asked her about her biological mother and the fact that we did not have recorded all of the men whom she had father children with, that in some instances all we have is the males surname. She started giggling and said that "Well, I'm just not sure Kellie. After all she jumped over the fence alot of times with alot of men."

Katherine was the sister in law of Geraldine Virginia Shuman, her daughter Maxines half sister. This makes Geraldine Maxines Aunt and half sister. This also makes many other interesting relationships that are too numerous to delve into.
