4315 | King.GEDCOM. Electronic. Date of Import: December13, 2001. [Benjiman Furbee Descendants.FTW] In 1792 Robert Davis and wife Mary Ann were summoned to answer John Mann and wife Ann in a plea of slander, damage 500 pounds, 4 JUL 1791 and 5 MAY 1792. The parties agreed to let arbitrators settle the dispute. Edward Parrish, Amos and George Smith, and William Jolliff, arbitrators, awarded the plaintiffs 6 pence. The same case involved John Davis, with Caleb Furby testifying for the Manns. On 13 FEB 1797 Robert was surety for the estate of Brinkl[e]y Davis. This is apparently Brinkley Davis, son of the Matthias Davis who died in Kent County, Deleware, APR 1785. Robert was apparently the R. Davis in the 1810 census of Monongalia Co., VA; his household comprised one male 16-26, one male 45+, two females 10-16, three females 16-26, and one female 45+. The other possibility, Rob. Davis, is too young and is probably his son Robert. Robert's will, made 14 JUL 1825, was probated AUG 1825; heirs named are daughter-in-law Ann Davis; grandsons Absolom Hart Davis and Abner Sipple Davis (sons of Charles, dec'd.); Charles and Miriam Davis, children of Charles dec'd.; sons John, Robert, Caleb; granddaughter Anna Davis; daughters Elizabeth Watts and Mary Furbey; wits. Stephen Gapen, John and Margaret Batten; excr. Bowers Davis. | Davis, Robert Jr. (I12010)

Boers [sic] Davis had a letter remaining in Morgantown P.O. 1 JUL 1834; his cousin Bowers Davis (son of Robert and Miriam) had moved to Tyler Co. in 1820, so it must have been a letter for this Bowers. Census Data: In 1820 Bowers was 26-45, with a female the same age. He had one male under 10, one male 10-16, and two females under 10. In 1830 he was 40-50, with a female 20-30. [Benjiman Furbee Descendants.FTW] In 1833 Mary Bell was 14yrs, 2 mos, and 27 days old when she rode to Green County, Pa. with and to married Samuel Jones Long. The couple rode on horseback to Greene Co. to get married. The day before they had been working the fields together and when Samuel came by with his horse and plow, she would turn her back to him as she was shy and timid. Sources: Furbee History by Wallace Foster McKimmie In 1838 Samuel received two land grants from the state of VA. One was for twenty and another was for one hundred acres. Both were located on the waters of Steel's Run which empties into Little Fishing Creek just above Wileyville, WV. The head waters of Steel's Run is just a mile or so from where the Furbee family settled. The Long and Furbee families were neighbors before the marriage of Samuel and Mary. Samuel Jones Long and his wife, Mary Bell, moved to the North Fork of Fishing Creek about 1840 and bought one hundred acres just out of Pine Grove, WV. Mary was only 14 at the time. Samuel and Mary had twelve children and became prosperous and influential in the area. In 1850, Samuel secured 580 acres of land, mostly on Maud's Run in the Grant District of Wetzel Co., from the state of VA. It later became an oil field and at the turn of the century, just after Samuel's death, all the children prospered from this. Sources: Descendents of Thomas Moore, Kevin Ahl Tombstone is inscribed with the name Mary Furbee Long, with birth date, death date unreadable, and born in Greene Co., PA. | Furbee, Mary Bell (I13080)

4337 | King.GEDCOM. Electronic. Date of Import: December13, 2001. [Benjiman Furbee Descendants.FTW] Jackson F. Bispham was raised in the Gillette area of Palmetto, FL. He and wife Kate had a row crop farm on Long Boat Key when they married. They also raised livestock on the island. In 1921 a terrible hurricane hit the island and just about everything washed into the bay. Jack, Kate and two year old Ruth rode the storm out in a boat anchored in a lime grove. When the storm passed, the land was so full of salt the farm was ruined. They moved to the mainland just south of the city of Sarasota, near the Fields Estate and Jack started a dairy with seven cows. Original brand for his cows was "7 C's" (which stood for his 7 cows.) His dairy grew and eventually he was milking 90 cows, mostly holsteins. He bought his first milking machine in 1941. Until then, the cows were milked by hand, beginning about 3:00 a.m. and milk delivered to customers in time for breakfast. After Kate's death, Jack married Lois Parker, whom he had known for many years. They lived at the dairy for a few years and then moved to Live Oak, FL where Jack went back to farming, raising tomatoes, grapes, guinea hens and cane. After Lois died, he sold his house and bought one on the other side of town next door to Almeda Swan. She was a nurse who had looked after Lois while she was sick, and she and Jack became friends. She looked after him until shortly before his death, when he had to be moved to a nursing home in Sarasota, FL. Jack never knew his cousins or other relatives when he was growing up, and insisted that his grandchildren get to know each other. | Bispham, Jackson Farabee (I15775)
