4104 | King.GEDCOM. Electronic. Date of Import: December13, 2001. [1760681.ged] She was about 5' 6". She is buried at Moore Cemetery, Wetzel County, West Virginia., WVA. She wa s the fourth of ten children. She was a housewife and mother. She died of h eart failure. She was known to be a good Christian woman. Her birth date may be the 24 or 25 of September, 1867. From my dialogue with JH Ashcraft, Tim As hcraft July 1998 My grandmother was probably almost as tall as my grandfather. She was probably--she was a tall, slender lady. She was probably 5'8" at l east, maybe she could have been 5'9". She was a very religious person. As I remember when I was a kid growing up, she'd go around the house singing hy mns most of the time. I don't suppose she knew any other songs. She liked t o go to church. She liked for the neighbor ladies to come in and they'd talk about church and going to church. She probably never had a drink in her lif e. I would seriously doubt that she ever had. She worked hard. She was a g ood cook. She had many friends. She always seemed to have a need to visit h er relatives in Roane county when we had the time to harvest out on the farm. Sometimes we didn't eat too good when she left to go visit her relatives, b ut I suppose that was one of her needs that she had. Mary, her daughter-in-l aw, Mary Clark, was very, very close; of course, Mary living right close ther e was handy for her. One thing I remember--My Granddad bought Grandmother a horse, probably this was in the mid-20s, and he bought it from Roy Taylor. H e was a bay horse with a blaze face, a riding horse. He was a pretty high li ne. My Grandmother would ride him sidesaddle. It had a sidesaddle. She rid sidesaddle, and that horse never would get out of a walk if she didn't wan t it to. It never give her a bit of trouble. Anybody else get on that horse , he would run off or he would jump if anything--he'd act scared if a bird fl ew in front of him. When she was on him, there was never any doubt that that horse would just walk along like an old plow horse. That was always amazing to us on the farm. She--after my Granddad and her were divorced, she--I don 't know where she did stay the first year or two. I think she went to Califo rnia to stay with Harry or--my Uncle Harry out there a while. She was out th ere when she died. He had gotten killed before she died. When my Granddad a nd her divorced, he gave her $10,000, which, in 1930, was a small fortune. S he still had about--between 7 and 8,000 when she died so she wasn't very--she didn't spend it very easily. Of course, you could live on $50 a week or $50 a month at that time, real easy. | Anderson, Martha Ellen (I6154)

4133 | King.GEDCOM. Electronic. Date of Import: December13, 2001. [1760681.ged] When Elias first saw Margaret, he was a young man about twenty-six years old. She was a young fifteen years old. The meeting took place at a church gath ering. Of course, no introduction and no exchange of words. He just keep lo oking at her, thinking--such a beautiful girl! "I would love to have her for my wife." Sometime later they did meet, and he learned that her name was Ma rgaret Sole. Since people married young in those days, a few months of court ship and they were married. Elias and Margaret set up housekeeping on his fath ers farm on Bear Run, Wetzel County, West Virginia., West Virginia. Since this was a very large farm, two brothers (Garrison and Ezra) lived on the same farm. {The time li ne for this pagagraph might be off since the two children were born in 1862 a nd 1863. Also, they were married in 1861. Tim Ashcraft} THey lived on the farm for a few years. Two children (Sarah and Ezra) were born there. In th e meantime, Margaret's father died, and her mother was living with them. Thi s was about the year of 1860 (the days of the Civil War). Elis was called to report to the Examining Board or whatever they called it. He reported for t he examination and showed them his knee (which he had infured with a corn cut ter). He told them, "Aside from his knee, God Almighty never made a better m an above the shirt tail." Elias had a cousin (Lute Anderson) living out West i n Missouri. He kept writing and telling Elias about the western country and what a wonderful place for a young couple to live. So, Elias decided to go W est. He, Margaret, their two children, and Margaret's mother made the trip in a wagon pulled by a team of mules. They stayed im Missouri four or five ye ars. One child, Alcinda Maud, was born there. Margaret's mother became very homesick for the hills of Wetzel County, West Virginia. so they made the long trek back. They settled on the home place (Bear Run) and seven more children were born. Abou t 1889, since both of his brothers had left, Garrison for Calhoun Co., West V irginis and Ezra for Roane Co., West Wirginia, Elias decided to move again. This time they sold the farm. They, along with their eight youngest children , loaded their possessions onto a wagon and with a mule team moved from Bead Ruun. They went to New Martinsville and put their wagon, mules and all on a Boat and went down the Ohio River to Ravenswood. They bought a farm near Liv erpool, Jackson Co. Elias had a mill to grind both corn and wheat. He also had a blacksmith shop. Business was good. Everything was going well, and ev eryone was happy (especially the younger children). During the Grover Clev eland Administration ahrd times (a near depression) hit the country. To amke matters worse Elias had gone on some notes for his brother, Garrison. Those were the days whena man had to pay his debts. So Elias lost some money in t he deal. Margaret thought he should not have signed the notes, to which Elia s replied, "But Margaret, he was my brother." The family moved again and s ettled near Peniel, Roane Co., West Virginia. In the late 1800's they moved to Calhoun Co. They stayed for a year or so at the home of George Lynch, Alt izer. Later they moved to Jesses Run, ehere they spent their remaining years . In their last days, Elias and Margaret shared the same love for each other as in their younger years. She being younger than he, could walk to visit t he neighbors. In the evening he would sit on the porch watching for her. Wh en he would see her coming he was like a sixteen year old with his first love . "There comes Margaret", you would hear him say. After he passed away, in 1917, she said sadley, "I was never lonely when Elias was here with me." The y both died at Jesses Run and are buried in the Gibson Cemetery, Calhoun Co., West Virginia. Written by Verbal Hickman Cunningham, April 1992 Verbal remem bers her grandfather with great warmth. "Grand-Da | Anderson, Elias Ferman (I6308)
