This is the lady I called "Grandma Walker". She was an white haired lady who I can barely remember. The big house she lived in was in Wear's Valley and you had to drive through a stream to get there. They eventually built a bridge. On one visit I remember chickens in the barn. Grandma Walker always wanted to hold me on her lap and I knew she was very old, but I was not afraid of her. The last things I remember was going to the house and she was very ill. Bedridden. I did not go see her but Mama did. This is about all I remember about Grandma Walker, but I remember well her kind face. They had an outside toilet. Alice Foster Blevins.

332 Birth Date:
According to the 1850 and the 1860 Census, we can estimate birth date ranges for Cassie as follows;
Range of likeliest dates:
02 Jun 1816 and 31 Aug 1816
Full range of possible dates: 04 Jun 1815 and 30 Aug 1817

This would place Cassie at about 16 years old when she was first married but according to some dates proposed for her mother, her mother would not have been old enough to have Cassie.

According to the 1870 and the 1880 Census, we can estimate birth date ranges for Cassie as follows;
Range of likeliest dates:
11 Jun 1818 and 04 Sept 1818
Full range of possible dates: 12 Jun 1817 and 03 Sept 1819

This date range places her at about 14 years old when she was first married. This date range allows her mother to be old enough to give birth and holds to the oral narrative.

I am using the 1818 range at this time but hope that more precise dates for Cassie and her immediate family are forthcoming.

JONES, CASSANDRA M. (I5918)

333 Birth Place:
In 1857 Cassie was married for a second time. The documentation states she was born in Marion County. The problem is that Marion County, Virginia did not exist until 1842 when it was formed from Harrison and Monongalia Counties. This tells us she was born in a section of Harrison County, Virginia that later became Marion County, Virginia, and finally became Marion County, West Virginia.

JONES, CASSANDRA M. (I5918)

334 Birth Place:
Marion County, Virginia did not exist until 1842 when it was formed from Harrison and Monongalia Counties. So we know that he was born in a section of Harrison County, Virginia that later became Marion County, Virginia, and finally became Marion County, West Virginia.

341 A Standard History of Oklahoma by Joseph B. Thoburn, vol. III, The American Historical Society, 1916.

Frederick Clayton Maxwell. The student of human nature is always deeply interested in tracing the career of one who has fought his way up to a position of prominence and financial success by dint of pluck, push and energy, and who has, notwithstanding the struggles of his youth, maintained a well earned reputation for uprightness and consideration for the rights of others. Such has been the career of Frederick Clayton Maxwell, proprietor of the Cotton County Democrat, of Walters, Oklahoma, and one of his town's most enterprising and progressive citizens. He has been the architect of his own fortunes in the fullest sense, and the success that has come to him has been won with honor and without animosity.
Mr. Maxwell was born August 31, 1878, at Fairfield, Iowa, and is a son of H. C. and Christina (Kauffman) Maxwell, natives of Ohio. The family originated in Scotland and were pioneers of Ohio, where H. C. Maxwell was born in 1837. As a young man he went to Fairfield, Iowa, in the vicinity of which city he engaged in farming and stockraising. When the Civil War came on, he enlisted in the Thirtieth Regiment, Iowa Volunteer Infantry, and served three years and six months in the Union army, during which time he was wounded in battle. He proved himself a valiant and faithful soldier, and when he received his hinorable discharge and returned to the duties of peace, resuming the pursuits of the soil, in which he has continued to be engaged to the present time. He is a republican and a member of the Presbyterian Church. Seven children have been born to H. C. and Christina Maxwell, namely: Robert Sherman, who died in infancy; Arthur Walter, state representative for the Culvert Manufacturing Company, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Hugh Raymond, who is a merchant at Fairfield, Iowa; Nellie B., who married Frank Loving, engaged in the real estate business at Huber Springs, Arkansas; Frederick Clayton, of this notice; Harley, a resident of What Cheer, Iowa; and Earl.
Frederick C. Maxwell received his education in the public schools of Iowa, which he attended until reaching the age of fourteen years. In the meantime, when but twelve years of age he had started to work in a confectionery store, learning the candymakers' trade. He thus continued at Fairfield, Iowa, until he was seventeen, when he went to Seymour, Iowa, to become an apprentice to the printer's trade for four years. In 1899 Mr. Maxwell returned to the candymakers trade at Davenport, and later at Moline, Illinois, until 1905, when he came to Oklahoma, located at Enid, and secured a position in an ice cream factory. After a short time spent there, Mr. Maxwell became connected with the Enid Events, under Everett Purcell, and subsequently took charge of the Hunter Enterprise, a newspaper with which he was connected until 1907, when he came to Walters, Oklahoma. On August 25th of that year he became editor of the Cotton County Democrat, which was established at that time by the Lawton Publishing Company, as a republican sheet.
