1860 Census Cynthia King

The Case of Lucinda Cynthia Rainwater

The Continuing Case of the Rainwaters. Read part one here.

DEATH

[dropcap]C[/dropcap]ynthia (Rainwater) King and Andrew stayed where they were. I believe Cynthia died BET 1883 AND 1899. Andrew died 15 Mar 1891 Sevier County, Tennessee. I believe they may have been buried together on the land they lived on due to financial constraints.

Caroline and Jeremiah moved lastly to Greene County, Missouri. Jeremiah died 11 March 1895. Caroline died 24 Jun 1905. Both are buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Republic Cemetery, Republic, Missouri. Jeremiah also has a U.S. Memorial Stone to indicate his service in the Civil War.

ERRORS

My own family tree for Cynthia and Andrew Jackson has many errors. The copy I currently have up is an old backup of a working copy and became my only copy. All of my current research indicates Andrew had only one wife, Cynthia. The pages for this couple will be fixed soon.

The errors others have made combining these women is somewhat understandable. Cynthia has been a mystery to her descendants for so long. Plugging that name in there, to make sense of it seems so easy. The easy answers we find doing this are not always the right ones.

NOTES

The only King Family Bible I know of lists the wife of Andrew Jackson King as Cynthia. It is not in my possession.

No death certificates I have found for the children of Andrew Jackson list Caroline as the mother.

Family lore has never called Caroline the wife of Andrew Jackson.

My father in law, Thomas Russell King has hung out on the reservation with a cousin. His cousin lived there through the line of Cynthia, not Caroline.

CONCLUSION

I am still finding more information about both of these Rainwater women but I can post this with full confidence that these two women are not one and the same. They share a common ancestry and a first name. They may have enough looked similar.

We know enough about Caroline and Cynthia to know they are not the same person but we still need to learn more about Cynthia. Period.

I hope that our family finds this post and corrects the horrible error of listing a fictitious hybrid woman named Lucinda Caroline “Cynthia” Rainwater as the spouse of Andrew Jackson King, Sr., the ancestor of my husband. Let’s take our time and climb the right branches together.

GOALS

Slowly Climbing the Right Rainwater Branch
Slowly Climbing the Branch

I am already considering an ancestor for next years Family History Writing Challenge and Cynthia Rainwater King is on my short list I would love to write about. If I choose her or not, I want us to work together as a family and discover all we can about our Lucinda.

If anyone will help me please let me know. We can divide the work and do this. If your surname is King and you male, please get your Y-DNA tested. If you are of King descent and have not tested your AT-DNA at Ancestry please do. If you do not know how to let me know. I will be happy to help.

*Note: Due to personal Irish Gremlins (user error) this argument is two blog posts instead of the one it was for the FHWChallenge 2018.
