I have seen much confusion over Lucinda Rainwater, Cynthia Rainwater and Caroline Rainwater in other peoples family trees. Many people are listing these women as the same woman. One article alone can not fully show all of the evidence I have showing that these women are not one in the same. The enormous amounts of documents are also too numerous to post all of them within one post.
I will concentrate on Lucinda Caroline Rainwater and proving that she is not the wife of Andrew Jackson King, Sr. and by elimination that Lucinda Cynthia Rainwater is his spouse. For the purpose of this post, I will refer to them as Caroline and Cynthia.
BIRTH
Cynthia was born BET 24 Aug 1822 And 09 Jun 1823 in North Carolina.
Caroline was born to John Nelson Rainwater and Barbara (Emert) Rainwater on 03 Feb 1831 in Sevier County, Tennessee.
MARRIAGE
Cynthia married Andrew Jackson “AJ” King, Sr., son of Nathaniel M. “Nat” King, Sr. and Margaret Elizabeth (Runyon) King in 1838 in Sevier County, Tennessee.
Caroline marries Jeremiah W. Lebo, son of Isaac Leabo and Katherine Elizabeth (Wilson) Lebo on 27 March 1846 in Ray County, Missouri. The ceremony was performed by Solomon Craven a Justice of the Peace.
Andrew Jackson King fathered Nancy Adeline “Ann” King Dec 1839. This is the first born child of Andrew Jackson King. If Caroline were the mother she would have been only eight years old.
CENSUS
Another family website listed had a census hand transcribed listing both Lucinda and Cynthia on different lines, residing in the same household. The information was lost to me and has since been taken down from that cousin’s site. Cynthia and Andrew are in the 1850 to 1880 Census together in Tennessee. This matches to all known records and locations for his children.
Caroline and Jeremiah are on the 1850 Census with a son and Encoh Rainwater listed as her brother. They then appear as Jerry and Caroline in the 1860 census with four children.
When the family moved to Dade County they appear in the 1870 Census there with son Joel Freeman Lebo born Missouri and four other children. By the 1880 Census, they had moved to Lawrence County but were listed under the surname Lebow though most documents and their graves show Leabo. Their children do however go by the surname Lebow. None of this information works on websites that list Caroline and Andrew Jackson along with the children Nancy, Nathaniel, William, Elizabeth, John, Mary, Andrew, Henry, Malvina, Jasper, Sarah and Pleasant. These children all have clear paper trails in Tennessee. This leaves the trail for Cynthia. Read part two here.
