Genealogy Blog Party Jan 2018

Start – Finnegan Begin Again

[dropcap]The [/dropcap]year will start with a “simple” task. The preparation and education that comes with it: a Genealogy Do-Over. I will run behind the 2018 schedule but the point is to do it right. I need to leave the legacy of my family, for my family. That takes time to do correctly.

My plan begins with gathering instructional materials. Yesterday I received my copy of Evidence Explained Citing History Sources from Artifacts to Cyberspace by Elizabeth Shown Mills! I will order Genealogy Standards, Fiftieth Anniversary Edition by the Board for Certification of Genealogists and The Genealogy Do-Over Workbook by Thomas MacEntee. After I have familiarized myself with my new educational tools, I will begin my Gendover in full.

So now What?

Until then, I am undertaking other projects. Customizing Scrivener to help make my blog and my family history research organized, ensuring Scrivener backs up to my family history Dropbox and creating specialized boards on Pinterest. Most importantly to me has been the start of a genealogy diary. To be able to look back and see how much I have accomplished will be my greatest tool.

Henry Ford on Failure. Remember this when it is time to start again.

Tackling 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks, 52 Stories in 52 Weeks, Ancestor Challenge 2018 and the Family History Writing Challenge 2018 during my Gendover will keep me busy!

I want to take a moment to thank my friends and family. They know what I am attempting to do and are giving me so much love and support. I have the courage to be where I am right now because of you. A special thanks to my husband Tom and my son Alex. Tom has listened to me debate what books to get in what order. Alex reviews my blog posts. They both have done more than I can say.

A new year, a fresh start, beginning with me.
